The Department of Information Science and Engineering strives to be a centre of learning in the field of Information Technology to produce globally competent engineers catering to the needs of the industry and society.
The role of IT has evolved from supporting business to transforming them. In order to sustain in this transformation, one has to identify the market needs, introduce excellent academic processes and bench mark the outcomes as per the defined standard.
The Information Science and Engineering Department focuses on all-round development encourages a vibrant interest in academic as well as in extra curricular activities. The Department has fully equipped laboratories and well qualified and experienced staff. The Department regularly arranges seminars, workshops from Industry Experts for students as well as staff and also organizes industry visits for students. The Department offers add-on courses to cope up with the latest trends in technology. The track record of result is excellent.
Department organizes motivational talk, placement guidance, workshop & carrier guidance through prominent alumni. The faculty frequently attend the staff development program (FDP/Seminar) in Offline /Online mode to update themselves in a technological change. Departments encourage the students to participates in the extra-curricular activities under student association CiPix. Students also participates in various social outreach programs (SOP) to enhance their leadership skills, teamwork communication and awareness on a protection of environment and social responsibilities.

InnoTechX 2024:Mini-Project Exhibition (11-12-2024) |
InnoTechX 2024, A Mini Project Expo was successfully organized by the Department of IS&E under the Institutions Innovation Council for 5th semester IS&E students on December 11,2024. The expo was evaluated by internal judges Mr. Ramesh Nayak, Assistant Professor Department of IS&E and Mr. Ajay Shet, Assistant Professor Department of CSE. A total of 16 teams consisting of 62 students participated and presented their project to the judges, faculties, and students of lower semester and other departments. All the projects done by the students were appreciated by the panel. Valuable suggestions were given to improve and add extra features into their projects. Projects titled “Mind-care: A sentiment analysis framework for mental health detection”, “Women Shield- A Secure and Safety Device” and “IoT based irrigation pump automation” were selected as the top 3 projects out of the 16 projects. |
"Nirmaan-2024 Idea to Innovation” Final Year Project Exhibition (10-12-2024) |
Department of Information Science & Engineering in association with Institutions Innovation Council (IIC) organized project exhibition “Nirmaan 2024 - Idea to Innovation”, on 10 December 2024, as part of College level project exhibition "Innovations Showcase". Seventeen Project teams (66 Students) participated and presented their project to the judges, faculties and to the students of lower semester during their visit. The projects were evaluated by Mr. Harish Neermarga, Accolade Tech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Dr. Dinesh Naik, NITK Surathkal as external judge and Mrs. Sowmya K, Dept. of CSE and Mrs. Saritha Suvarna, Dept. of CSE as internal judge. Projects titled “Real-Time Collaborative code Editor for Seamless Tech Interviews” lead by Miss. Amulya Jois was selected as the best project followed by “HealthHub-Rapid Diagnosis Model” lead by Mr. Pradyumna D Bhat and “Advanced Browser Extension for Dark Pattern Detection and Mitigation” lead by Mr. Kartik Girish Pai scoring second and third place. All projects were appreciated by all the judges and have given valuable suggestions to improve their project. |
Industrial Visit (05-12-2024) |
On 5th December 2024 , our department 3rd -semester students embarked on an industrial visit to the Center of Excellence for Cyber Security at MIT Manipal, as well as the Manipal Universal Technology Business Bio-Incubator (MUTBI). A total of 108 students participated in this enlightening event, which was coordinated by Mr. Ranganatha K, Assistant Professor, Dr. Narayan Naik Associate Professor, Mrs. Shilpa B Assistant Professor, Mrs. Geethalaxmi Assistant Professor, Mr. Pradeep Murur Assistant Professor and Mr. Sowjan and Mr. Kishore are the student coordinator. During the visit, students gained valuable insights into IoT and learned about the functioning of cybersecurity in a smart city model. Furthermore, they acquired knowledge about the incubator facility and how it provides entrepreneurial opportunities for innovative ideas. Objectives: Explore the research, education, and training initiatives at the Center of Excellence for Cybersecurity. Gain insights into the technologies and methodologies being developed and tested at the center. INFOVATION (20-11-2024) |
The Department of Information Science and Engineering (ISE), in collaboration with GeekHub, Industry Connect Club, and IIC, successfully conducted the technical event "INFOVATION" on 20th November 2024. The event, designed to provide students with valuable technical insights and skill-building opportunities, witnessed enthusiastic participation and was deemed a significant success. The formal function was followed by the events like error expedition, blind coding and UI Battle. The event concluded with a final round and the announcement of winners, celebrating the participants' efforts and achievements. "INFOVATION" provided a platform for students to showcase their abilities, fostered learning, and contributed significantly to their professional growth. HacktoberFest24, hosted by Canara Engineering College from October 20th to October 30th, 2024, was a 11-day event open to students from all departments of the institution. Aimed at promoting open-source contributions and collaborative development, the event attracted 18 participants who actively engaged in meaningful coding projects and skill-building activities. The event featured a variety of activities such as open-source project contributions, code reviews, problem-solving challenges, and knowledge-sharing sessions. These activities were designed to cater to participants with diverse technical expertise, ensuring an inclusive and engaging experience. Students from different departments brought unique perspectives, enriching the collaborative efforts and broadening the scope of the projects tackled. Placement Assistance for preparing for upcoming Placement Drive (04-10-2024) |
Ms. Chaitra Nayak, an ISE alumnus and 2024 CEC graduate, spoke to the final-year ISE students and provided them with advice and information to help them get ready for the impending placement drive. She told us that the written exam for the first round would include questions about attitude, coding exercises, and riddles. She encouraged us to put in a lot of effort and stressed the significance of doing well in the first round. She also offers advice on how to perform well in the phase and on the upcoming t round. |

A talk on “Promoting Responsible Behavior and Academic Excellence” was held on July 8th, 2024, at 3 PM for 4th semester ISE students. The session was led by Ms. Sandhya P, Counsellor of CEC, and coordinated by Mr. Ramesh Nayak, Assistant Professor in the ISE department. Ms. Sandhya emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced approach to relationships and studies, highlighting that students should be friendly and avoid constant distractions from the mobile phones. She stressed the value of discipline, regular class attendance, and active participation in class activities. Additionally, she advised against over-reliance on artificial intelligence-supported answers, encouraging students to engage in self-learning and exploration. Approximately 62 students attended the session, which concluded with a feedback survey and a quiz. |

The workshop on "Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and IP Management for Startups" was conducted by the Department of ISE in association with IIC on July 3, 2024, in the seminar hall. A total of 91 students from the 2nd and 3rd years participated in the workshop. Objective: The workshop focused on the importance of Intellectual Property Rights and covered various categories such as Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights, with examples. It was a great success and provided students with valuable knowledge. The workshop attracted a good number of participants and added significant value to all those who attended. It concluded with a team activity. Ms. Amulya Jois served as the MC, and Ms. Maithili R. Shetty introduced the guest. The program was coordinated by Mr. Ranganath K., Assistant Professor, Dept. of ISE.
