ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The role of IT has evolved from supporting business to transforming them. In order to sustain in this transformation, one has to identify the market needs, introduce excellent academic processes and bench mark the outcomes as per the defined standard.

The Information Science and Engineering Department focuses on all-round development encourages a vibrant interest in academic as well as in extra curricular activities. The Department has fully equipped laboratories and well qualified and experienced staff. The Department regularly arranges seminars, workshops from Industry Experts for students as well as staff and also organizes industry visits for students. The Department offers add-on courses to cope up with the latest trends in technology. The track record of result is excellent.
Department organizes motivational talk, placement guidance, workshop & carrier guidance through prominent alumni. The faculty frequently attend the staff development program (FDP/Seminar) in Offline /Online mode to update themselves in a technological change. Departments encourage the students to participates in the extra-curricular activities under student association CiPix. Students also participates in various social outreach programs (SOP) to enhance their leadership skills, teamwork communication and awareness on a protection of environment and social responsibilities.

ACADEMIC DETAILS

Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Information science & Engineering (IS&E) programme is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum, Karnataka. The department aims at cultivating thirst for knowledge, vigor and the vision to look beyond the evident in students. The students are well versed with the exhaustive and thoroughly chosen curriculum, guided as they are by an experienced faculty. Hands on training sessions in various fields of application of IT have imparted to the students considerable acumen in the vast sector. The students perform project work as part of their curriculum to enhance their specification skills, leading to multifaceted development of their engineering concepts.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

Engineering graduates in Information Science and Engineeringwill be able to:

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  10. Communication: CCommunicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

  • This lab is utilized by the 3rd year ISE students to conduct lab programs related to Network programs using Java & Network Simulation programs using NS2 and File Structure lab with mini project.

Machine Learning, ST & Project Laboratories

  • This lab is utilized by the 4th & 3rd &year ISE students to conduct lab programs related to Machine using Python and Software testing programs. And also 4th year ISE students to do the academic and other related projects.

Placement Assistance for preparing for upcoming Placement Drive (04-10-2024)

Ms. Chaitra Nayak, an ISE alumnus and 2024 CEC graduate, spoke to the final-year ISE students and provided them with advice and information to help them get ready for the impending placement drive. She told us that the written exam for the first round would include questions about attitude, coding exercises, and riddles. She encouraged us to put in a lot of effort and stressed the significance of doing well in the first round. She also offers advice on how to perform well in the phase and on the upcoming t round.

A session on Machine Learning Fundamentals was conducted on July 10, 2024, at 2 PM, with Mr. Snehal Rai, a 2nd-year ISE student, as the resource person. The session was attended by a total of 59 participants. It began with an introduction to the basics of machine learning and its various types, including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning. Concepts of classification and clustering were explored, with clear distinctions and use cases provided for each. Practical demonstrations on Google Colab were also included, showcasing examples of classifiers to illustrate the theoretical concepts discussed. A talk on “Promoting Responsible Behavior and Academic Excellence” was held on July 8th, 2024, at 3 PM for 4th semester ISE students. The session was led by Ms. Sandhya P, Counsellor of CEC, and coordinated by Mr. Ramesh Nayak, Assistant Professor in the ISE department. Ms. Sandhya emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced approach to relationships and studies, highlighting that students should be friendly and avoid constant distractions from the mobile phones. She stressed the value of discipline, regular class attendance, and active participation in class activities. Additionally, she advised against over-reliance on artificial intelligence-supported answers, encouraging students to engage in self-learning and exploration. Approximately 62 students attended the session, which concluded with a feedback survey and a quiz.

The workshop on "Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and IP Management for Startups" was conducted by the Department of ISE in association with IIC on July 3, 2024, in the seminar hall. A total of 91 students from the 2nd and 3rd years participated in the workshop. Objective: The workshop focused on the importance of Intellectual Property Rights and covered various categories such as Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights, with examples. It was a great success and provided students with valuable knowledge. The workshop attracted a good number of participants and added significant value to all those who attended. It concluded with a team activity. Ms. Amulya Jois served as the MC, and Ms. Maithili R. Shetty introduced the guest. The program was coordinated by Mr. Ranganath K., Assistant Professor, Dept. of ISE. The Department of ISE organized a workshop on crafting the perfect resume for 6th-semester students on 5/6/24 in LH-203. The event was coordinated by Mr. Ranganatha K. The resource persons for the program were Mr. Keerthan and Mrs. Panchami, Placement Officers at CEC. The session covered everything students need to know: how to build a strong resume that gets noticed by Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and why recruiters rely on resumes in the hiring process. It also highlighted the key differences between a CV and a resume. The students had a great time participating in the hands-on workshop, and we received some amazing feedback!
