HISTORY OF CHSA

The name Canara High School Association has a long history of educating generations from the past 132 years. Canara High School Association founded by the great visionary Ammembal Subba Rao Pai (19-11-1852 – 25-07-1909), way back in 1891, during pre independence period, now has over a dozen educational institutions, imparting quality education from Nursery level to Graduation, for over 13000 young minds from Coastal Karnataka and surrounding regions.

The Association aims at imparting not just modern education but also moral values that is blended with cultural values. In 1891, Ammembal Subba Rao Pai, the founder of CANARA BANK, a great social reformer and philanthropist, from his concern for social up-liftment, envisioned and started the Canara High School, Mangalore.

In 1894, Canara Girls High School was started with an objective of encouraging girls’ education. He had taken a revolutionary step considering the prevalent values and attitude of the people towards girls’ education during those days. Canara Girls High School is now in its fruitful 125th year of service.

CANARA firmly believes that only EDUCATION makes a person, a responsible citizen. ‘Quality education at affordable cost for all’ has remained a guiding principle and even after 127 years, the tradition continues with a deep sense of satisfaction, spreading millions of alumni in every nook and corner of this world. Catering to the needy, CANARA has always lent a helping hand in educating financially incapable children. Mid day meals in Schools, scholarships and every possible assistance is taken care of at CANARA for the cause of education.
