The Department of Computer Science and Business System and the Department of Computer Science and Design in association with Alumni Cell and Institution's Innovation Council organized a talk on "The Entrepreneurial Journey - Combining Technology and Business for Impact". Mr. Kashyap Hebbar K, Founder & CEO of Jagadhathri Infosolutions Pvt. Ltd. and alumnus of CEC was the resource person for the event. The objective of the program was to encourage students to think critically about how they can leverage technology to address real-world problems, fostering a mindset geared towards innovation and impact. Mr. Kashyap shared his invaluable insights and entrepreneurial experiences with students which motivated the students to take up innovation and entrepreneurship. His inspiring journey highlighted the powerful synergy between technology and business in creating meaningful change. Mr. Hebbar discussed current trends at the intersection of technology and business, equipping students with knowledge that can help them stay relevant in an evolving job market. On 25-09-2024 , the Department of Computer Science and Business Systems hosted an engaging technical talk on “Natural Language Processing using Machine Learning,” exclusively for our 5th-semester CSBS students. Dr. Praahas Amin, HOD and Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Design, shared his expertise on the intersection of NLP and machine learning techniques. Students gained valuable insights into the fundamentals of NLP, explored various algorithms, and gained a knowledge on implementation of machine learning models in real-world applications. The interactive session fostered a collaborative learning environment, encouraging students to ask questions and engage in discussions. Total of 57 students participated in the event. The Department of Computer Science and Business Systems organized a technical talk titled “Integrating Research Practices in Engineering” tailored specifically for our 3rd-semester CSBS students. Dr. H. Manoj T. Gadiyar, HOD and Associate Professor of the Department of Information Science and Engineering, led the session, sharing valuable insights on effective research methodologies. Students learned how to effectively approach research projects, utilize credible sources, and develop critical thinking skills .The talk emphasized the importance of integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application in research . The engaging discussion fostered a lively exchange of ideas and encouraged students to ask questions, enriching their understanding of research in engineering. The session commenced with practical examples to highlight the significance of stress management techniques. We explored why managing stress is vital, its purpose, and practical application in daily life. Participants were encouraged to consider "what, where, how" before responding to stressors, promoting thoughtful and deliberate reactions. Common mistakes in managing stress, such as avoidance and procrastination, were highlighted, and participants were encouraged to analyze their own stress triggers. Establishing a routine for managing stress, including time management and relaxation practices, was emphasized as crucial for mental and physical well-being. The resource person highlighted various stress management techniques and encouraged participants to follow approaches that they feel most comfortable with, ensuring a personalized and effective stress management plan. On July 2nd, 2024, the department of Computer Science and business system at canara engineering college organized a "hands-on IOT workshop" for 6th semester students in Skill lab. The resource person was Dr. Kiran M, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology, NITK, Surathkal. Mr. Tyson Baptist D'cunha, Research Scholar, Department of Information Technology, Surathkal. Ms. M Sirisha, Intern, Department of Information Technology, Surathkal. Mr. A Saikumar, Intern, Department of Information Technology, Surathkal. 59 students from 3rd year CSBS participated in this event. During the workshop, participants had the opportunity to learning, essential of collecting data from sensor and uploading to the cloud. Cloud management, data analysis and visualization, smart monitoring IoT sensors and data. The event was coordinated by Mrs. Aishwarya K, of CSBS department.

The event started at 2:00 PM. Vaishnavi, the class representative of 4th semester CSBS, welcomed the resource persons and provided a brief introduction about them. The Department of Computer Science and Business System in association with Institution’s Innovation Council organized an industrial visit to Skill Lab at ComedKares Innovation Hub, Mangalore on 25th June 2024. The event included hands-on session on RC BOT controlled by mobile for the 2nd year students of CSBS Department. ComedKares is an initiative by COMEDK to help students enhance their skills by giving access to machines, tools and mentors to build products and solutions that impact community. The students had the opportunity to build the bot and experiment with its functionalities. The event provided students valuable insights into the world of robotics and mobile technology. Dr. Udaya Kumar Shenoy, HOD, Department of CSBS served as the convenor of the industrial visit. Ms. Yashaswini K L, Assistant Professor at the Department of CSBS and a total of 60 students participated in the event.

On June 12-06-2024, the department of Computer Science and Business System at canara engineering college organized a session on " C Programming 101: Your first step into coding" for first year CSBS students in the LH-101. Mr. Anirudh Udupa, 2nd year, CSBS. Mr. Varun Raj, 2nd year, CSBS led hands-on session covering C programming basics. They taught C variables, data types, structure, functions, statements, using pointers in different situations and sample c programs. A total 62 students participated, with coordination by Mrs. Aishwarya K, Department of CSBS.

We delved into the purpose of ettiquette, emphasizing it's role in fostering respect and it's impact on personality development.The resource person adeptly addressed study techniques, focusing on effective reading and compression strategies. Common mistakes in studying were highlighted and participants were encouraged to analyse their learning styles. Establishing a study routine was emphasized as crucial for academic success. Department of Computer Science and Business System in association with Institution’s Innovation Council at CEC an insightful session on "Entrepreneurial Leadership" on February 21, 2024, Mr. Deepak Raj, Zone Trainer - JCI India, was the resource person for the event. Dr. Nagesh H. R., Principal of Canara Engineering College, addressed the students and emphasized the significance of leadership in academics as well as an entrepreneur. The programme was chaired by Dr. H. Manoj T. Gadiyar, Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Business System. The Library and Information Centre & NDLI Club at Canara Engineering College organized a One-Day Faculty Development Program on "IEEE Remote Access & New Features" on February 20, 2024. Mr. M. S. Srinivasa, IEEE Training Manager, South India, was the resource person for the FDP. Dr. Nagesh H. R., Principal of Canara Engineering College, addressed the participants in the beginning of FDP and emphasized the significance of research in the teaching career. Throughout the session, faculty members received insights into the new features of IEEE, encompassing remote access options, paper downloads, and accessing the most cited papers. The interactive session involved student activities where participants had to propose solutions for problems identified in research articles of their choice, sourced from the IEEE website. A total of 42 from CSD,18 students from ECE and 7 from CSBS department participated in the program. The Department of Computer Science and Business System in association with Institution’s Innovation council conducted an insightful session on “Achieving Problem-Solution Fit and Product-Market Fit – Part 2” on 14th February 2024. Dr. Venkatesh Nagaraja, Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering was the resource person for the event. The session consisted insights on importance of analysing the problem statement on the basis of 5 Ws, requirement of supporting evidence, identifying people affected by the problem, context impact, timeframe and worthiness of the problem. The event provided the students with a hands on experience on creating an Empathy Map for the problem identified. A total of 50 students from CSBS department participated in the event. The event TECHMAZE commenced at 2:00 PM in classroom LH108, organized by the second-year CSBS students. A total of 41 students participated, engaging in multiple rounds of competition. The Department of Computer Science and Business System in association with Institution’s Innovation council conducted an insightful session on “Achieving Problem-Solution Fit and Product-Market Fit” on 31st January 2024. Dr. Venkatesh Nagaraja, Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering was the resource person for the event. Dr. Nagesh H R, Principal, Canara Engineering College addressed the students and shared his experience on importance of Product-Market fit. The program was chaired by Dr. H Manoj T Gadiyar, Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Business System. The session consisted insights on identifying and understanding customers’ needs and pain points, importance of knowing the target customers, validating their problem, aligning customers’ needs with solution business offers through its products and services. At the end of session, team activity was conducted where each team came up with a problem statement. A total of 57 students from CSBS department participated in the event. The Department of Computer Science and Business System in association with Institution's Innovation Council organized a motivational session by a successful innovator and entrepreneur on December 6th, 2023. Mr. Prajwal V Kumar, Director and Co-founder of Mangalore Robautonics Pvt Ltd, was the resource person for the session. The main objective of this programme was to inspire and motivate students by showcasing the success stories of innovators and entrepreneurs, encourage them to pursue their ideas and take up entrepreneurship. Mr. Prajwal Kumar shared his journey of exploration and creation, motivated the students to embrace the spirit of innovation, transform the challenges into opportunities and push all the boundaries. The session highlighted stories of some of the greatest innovators like Elon Musk, the visionary behind companies like Tesla, SpaceX and snippets from the movie “October Sky” which depicted passion for scientific exploration and innovation. A total of 171 students participated in the event.

Branch Entry program for the students of third semester was held on 17th November 2023. The event was organized by cultural committee lead by Mr. Naveen Kalal, Chief Coordinator. Dr. Nagesh H R, The Principal and Dr. Demian Antony D Mello, The Vice Principal addressed the incoming students. Dr. Manoj T Gadiyar, HOD CSBS and the Heads of various other departments graced the occasion. Objectives: Enable the students to develop GUI using Python Tkinter. Benefits in terms of learning: At the end able to develop several partly-functional applications. Able develop layouts by using different geometry managers. Styling widgets by using styling options and configuring the root widget. Report: Topics discussed were the advantages and applications of the Python Programming Language, the creation of buttons, frames, and canvas, developing calculator applications, and developing an image viewer. A Python Bootcamp work shop was conducted for the Second year Computer Science and Business System Branch on December 31, 2022. Over 60 students participated in the event and got an overview of the Python Programming language and learnt the basics of the language. They solved a few python programming problems and also solved a leet code problem. The students were enthusiastic and cheerful and very responsive.

The Department of Central Library and Information Center conducted “Optimal usage of VTU E-Learning Resources” on 02/12/2022 for second year students of Computer Science and Business System. Mrs. Supriya A V, Assistant Professor, Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, spoke about the facilities available at the college central library, benefits of VTU e-resource usage during research, paper publication and project report preparation. The students were shown a demonstration of a remote access solution that is specifically designed for effective access of digital content subscribed by VTU Consortium such as e- journals, e-books, articles from various publishers Springer Nature , Taylor and Francis, Elsevier /Science Direct, IEEE POP, Emerald, McGraw Hill and Turnitin Online Plagiarism Check Tool, Lanquill(Sententia) Netanalytiks Grammar Tool.

Computer Science and Business System branch entry program was conducted by department cultural committee on 24th November 2022. Mrs. Pooja Kini, faculty at department of Computer Science and Business System welcomed the second year students. Invocation was done by Ms.Varsha from second year. Mr. Vinay P, Head of the department of Computer Science and Business System addressed the second year students and spoke about the uniqueness and advantages of Computer Science and Business System specialization in current IT industry. Mr. Himanshu and Ms. Priyanka Bharadwaj from second year expressed their aspirations for the next three years in the department.
